Lady Spartans complete sweep of rival Eagles

Athens Academy completed a regular-season sweep of rival Athens Christian on Saturday with one of their best defensive performances of the year in a 39-24 win.

Coming into the weekend, the Lady Spartans were on a three-game losing streak. With Saturday's win and a win over Commerce on Friday, they are now on a two-game winning streak.

"They still see that what they are doing is important in the big picture," Athens Academy coach Kevin Petroski said. "They are really into what is going on."

The Lady Spartans (14-9, 9-5 in Region 8-A) were led by Emily O'Rear, who scored 12 points and added six rebounds, three steals and four blocks. Dynelle Todman scored eight points and added five rebounds.

Athens Christian (5-17, 3-11) was led by Natasha Broughton, who scored eight points. The Lady Eagles have lost seven straight.
